Ski Trip help; Tahoe, Taos, or Angel Fire?

Ok so I am plaining a ski trip for the beginning of January. I cannot decided which place is better. I would like to get some opinions on each place from people that have actually been there. First let me tell you what we are looking for. I enjoy snowboarding and my girlfriend enjoys sking, however we are going with people that enjoy shopping and other activities as well. Also I heard that some of these places have some casinos but i dont know how close. Also if you know how crowded these places are and maybe if the cost is reasonable this would be great as well. Basically any input from personal experience.

Thank you

I lived at Tahoe for a number of years, and have been to Taos (not to Angel Fire, though). I can tell you that Lake Tahoe is hands-down going to offer the most to your party. It has a number of world-class ski resorts within an hour or two (depending on where you're staying), including; Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Kirkwood, Heavenly, Boreal, Diamond Peak, Sierra at Tahoe, etc. And depending on where you stay at the lake, you can be hip deep in restaurants, casinos and everything else.

If I were you, I'd check out what kind of deals they're offering at Harrah's and Harvey's on the South end of the lake (there's also a number of other hotels and two other casinos). It can be crowded, but the nice thing is that once you are there, you don't have to drive anywhere. The casinos have an aerial tram that leaves right from a common square and takes you up to Heavenly. Not to mention that this end of the lake is by far the most developed and has a number of excellent restaurants, shopping and night clubs.

If you're looking for something that is definitely more skiing oriented (and less towards off the slopes activities), then aim for Squaw Valley. Not only is it a terrific mountain in its own right - even if its ski patrol is a bit too quick to tell you to slow down - it is also pretty close to Alpine Meadows, so you could get there for a day.
